Clever girl!: GOP intent on sabotaging the economy for political gain
Republicans said a payroll tax cut would help create jobs, and now they’re opposed to their own idea. Republicans said the Economic Development Administration is great for the economy, and now they’re opposed to that, too. Republicans have traditionally supported infrastructure investment,…

if police brutality against white folks gets trumped by facebook news, what does police brutality against POC (especially black folk) get trumped by?
pleased as punch that folks are out for wall street, but if the movement (or it’s media image, it’s hard to tell from half way around the globe) stays overeducated and underemployed white folks they aren’t representing any 99%.
fuck a movement that claims the 99% and constantly defines itself as a tiny privileged sliver of that 99%. if you are constantly implying that you should be getting better because you are the image that power projects of itself and not getting your share you are defining yourself against the folks who aren’t fitting that projection.
Yes. I know there are some poc at OccupyWallStreet, but it must be very very few. There are a number of reasons for that - inability to take time off from work without losing one’s home or job, children that need to be cared for (and we can’t pay someone else to parent them for a few weeks), etc. But I do think there are reasons that the media - including independent media and pics posted by individual protestors - coverage is very very very white. I also bristle every time I read that “I am the 99%” and it’s someone that I think… no, you really aren’t. Not that I don’t think that their concerns are valid - they most certainly are. I’m just saying, where were they when the real 99% have been saying that we were going thru these things for the last 30+ years? Yes, I feel for everyone who is jobless, without health coverage, etc. But it’s kinda funny to me that they didn’t care about the true 99% who have always had these issues until it happened to them. And frankly, I don’t believe they care about the rest of us now or will care about us in the future.

This is Proof that I am Thinking...: Today while Reading Miranda
Today:
1) I read and briefed and re-briefed Miranda v. Arizona. I have seemingly come to the conclusion that this case is so influential for some major reasons. One reason is because it gives some sort of legitimacy to the police interrogation and collection of evidence methods via the Miranda…

Anti-Immigrant New Mexico Governor’s (R) Grandparents Were Undocumented Immigrants:
New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez (R) has long been known for her vitriolic rhetoric against undocumented immigrants. Just this week, she slammed presidential contender Rick Perry (R-TX) for once supporting the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform.
“It is not comprehensive reform to put people who are here illegally, who violated the law, and put them in front of the line for those folks who have been waiting and doing all the right things to come to the United States,” she said.
When asked about her grandparents:
“I know they arrived without documents, especially my father’s father.” source: mycuentame.org»

Any type of sexual activity has no place in the military.
Rick Santorum
If Santorum is so concerned about “sexual activity in the military,” he should re-focus his attention to the alarming rates of sexual assault against female soldiers and stop policing people’s sexual orientation & gender identity.

Unfortunately for supporters of Davis, Obama is in his second bid for president, which means that any call for justice for an African American would trigger a racial backlash from some voters, particularly those of the Fox-News, fear-mongering persuasion. And given the tough and divisive first term he has had, the chances that President Obama will stick his neck out for a fellow minority is close to zero. Like it or not, this is a cold reminder of how little effect a Black man in the White House has had on ending or even addressing the very real applications of systemic racism and injustices, which is manifested on a daily basis in society at large.
a quote from the Atlanta Post on Obama’s silence in connection with the extremely questionable execution of Troy Davis that will take place at 7pm tonight in Atlanta, Georgia. (via bohemianarthouse)(via queerindigenology)
