i believe at the top of the photo it says “jeune barbarin” which means young barbarian. not sure about the translation or the usage of the term. but nonetheless, yay colonialism.

Romans used to call the people Indigenous to North Africa, Barbarians. That’s where the word ‘Berber’ comes from and since i learnt that ‘Berber’ is actually a slur, i just say Amazigh now.
I feared that’s what it meant. =( I actually looked up the term “barbarian” in french and it was spelled a lot differently. I learn something new everyday…this is such a fail though. But it is interesting to learn the linguistic roots of the term ‘berber’…ill make a point to refrain from future use.
