if police brutality against white folks gets trumped by facebook news, what does police brutality against POC (especially black folk) get trumped by?

pleased as punch that folks are out for wall street, but if the movement (or it’s media image, it’s hard to tell from half way around the globe) stays overeducated and underemployed white folks they aren’t representing any 99%.

fuck a movement that claims the 99% and constantly defines itself as a tiny privileged sliver of that 99%.  if you are constantly implying  that you should be getting better because you are the image that power projects of itself and not getting your share you are defining yourself against the folks who aren’t fitting that projection.

 Yes. I know there are some poc at OccupyWallStreet, but it must be very very few. There are a number of reasons for that - inability to take time off from work without losing one’s home or job, children that need to be cared for (and we can’t pay someone else to parent them for a few weeks), etc. But I do think there are reasons that the media - including independent media and pics posted by individual protestors - coverage is very very very white. I also bristle every time I read that “I am the 99%” and it’s someone that I think… no, you really aren’t. Not that I don’t think that their concerns are valid - they most certainly are. I’m just saying, where were they when the real 99% have been saying that we were going thru these things for the last 30+ years? Yes, I feel for everyone who is jobless, without health coverage, etc. But it’s kinda funny to me that they didn’t care about the true 99% who have always had these issues until it happened to them. And frankly, I don’t believe they care about the rest of us now or will care about us in the future.
